penguin logo during bootup?
During bootup, you see a small penguin logo on the top left side of the screen. I kind of like it. I think it is because of of bramebuffers, i am able to see it during bootup.
A few months ago I compiled my own 2.6 kernel and it worked out pretty good. I only have one complaint. Where did my penguin logo go during bootup? Is there something I need to do in my lilo.conf to enable it back?
TIA

Sounds like you didn't enable the framebuffer when you recompiled the kernel. You are going to have to re-recompile to include framebuffer.

Assuming you enabled framebuffer in the kernel properly...:
add the 'vga=769' or similar to the lilo.conf:
#before
image=/boot/vmlinuz
label=linux
append="root=/dev/hda1"
#after
image=/boot/vmlinuz
label=linux
append="root=/dev/hda1 vga=769"
Run lilo to apply

Here is a part of my lilo.conf
image=/vmlinuz
label=Linux
read-only
alias=1
I think I did enable framebuffer in my kernel. As can be seen, I don't have the append line. I will try adding the append line and reboot to see if I get the logo. Can only do it, when i am in front of my computer as i wont be able to see the bootup remotely. I had another question regarding bootup, should I start another thread?
Thanks again.

No - add it to this one as it's likely to be part of the same problem. It'll be more useful to another user if they have the same problem(s) - they can see the steps you have taken to resolve it.

Ok, So my other question is regarding apache during bootup.
My apache startup requires me to give it a passphrase(for ssl).
Is there a way to automate this so that I dont have to type this.
Mainly because, I cant be at the console when i am rebooting
remotely.. or is there a way to get the console remotely?
