I used to have installed pctel v.0.9.6. It worked just fine when using the internet but after the third connection on a dialup connection my computer would freeze. I have also noticed that my computer wasn't the same like before. My man pages did not work, my finger damean didn't work even telnet and some other problems. I checked to see if it was my firewall (iptables) but it wasn't. The ports were not being filtered. Since I couldn't fix the problem I reinstalled my linux box. I even tried to install v. 0.9.7 could'nt get it to work. If any of you guys have had simular problems or can recommend me another driver that is compatible for Red Hat Linux 9 please let me know. I searched Google, rpmfind, linmodems, etc. but didn't find the right one. Thx in advance.

I just had similar problems with one of my other systems. It turned out that the driver source I compiled from was bad download and that's why it was locking up. I went and downloaded it was fixed. I also did a fresh install and nothing seemed to work just like you did and as I said it turned out to be a bad download.
I never before went to that part of the site. When I got there I found a few more pctel drivers that I never before seen. And, yes, I downloaded one of them, and, yes, it installed without any errors. Oh, before I installed I checked to see if it was the same size from the web site. Up until now it is working fine. Thx t3gah. I'll let you know if anything goes wrong in this asame thread or I could just make a new thread. Anyways thx again.
