PC hangs after reboot...

...I have an AMD Athlon and a VIA chipset (what I believe is called the 4-in-1?), and I remember reading something about this on the web. I tried searching for various things under Google, but nothing would bring up a fix or even a description of the problem.

Also, I haven't installed Linux yet, but it's almost done, and I remember this being a problem when I used Linux before (it may have been fixed in kernel 2.4.19, I don't know).

it doesn't power itself down, or it hangs when it is booted? I have AMD on VIA chipset (ABIT KT7-RAID mobo) none of a problem.

It hangs after a CTRL+ALT+DEL. On bootup is fine, but after I restart my computer it freezes at the BIOS screen w/ the HP logo (it's a hewlett-packard, BTW).
