pc-angel versus dual boot win xp/linux

I recently attempted to install a linux (Mandriva 2007) system as a dual boot on an eMachine T5216 with win xp media version. The partitioning process seemed OK and linux installed and ran from the lilo boot prompt. But when I tried to boot into windows, up came pc-angel and insisted on a complete recovery of the win xp system which included formatting of the windows partition. Tried booting in recovery mode using the linux install CD and re-installing the boot loader (lilo) which again caused a full recovery install of the windows system.
Has anyone had experience with this problem and how can I prevent windows pc-angel from detecting the change to the MBR (I assume that is the trigger) and automatically going into recovery process?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Don
