What is the path and filename of the kernel as a compressed file?

if i think what your trying to ask is the actual kernel itself ?? usually it can reside in the / directory or at times maybe in /boot
the actual source of the kernel reside in /usr/src/kernel

I also changed your thread title, try to put more helpful thread titles of your specific problem besides just "help"

I run mandrake 8.2 and mine resides in /boot as vmlinuz or when I recompiled my kernel, I made bzImage and it also resides in /boot

/usr/src/kernel ??? you're getting old....

/usr/src/linux
