partiton magic for linux


is there a partition magic clone where you can resize a partition without destroying the data?

even with partition magic theres some issues that making problems to my partitions. i have once destroyed my partition becoz of partition magic.

is is safe the program that you are recommended for use?

Parted can do waht you want but as with any tools that modify your disks directly make sure you backup your data first. Even if it is just to protect against power loss during the opperation.

Seems like I once used "fips" but I don't think it is as potent as "Partition Magic."

I've heard PM has considered making a PM for Linux, don't know what the status is.

I would say to always be prepared for the worst when you go mucking about the partition table; more especially if you are newbie like me!

Mandrake 9.1 comes with a utility to resize partitions built in. Open your Mandrake control Center...Mount Points...Diskdrake. I have used it before without actually installing Mandrake on a system. In the partitioning stage of the install....resized the partitions...saved...and then bailed out of the install.
Like David said, though...Always, always back up your data.

Thanks for the heads up. I just looked and I have Mandrake 9.1, never have used it though.
