partition question

hey, i just freed up 10 gig's of space on my windows partition and resized that thing down so now i have 10 gigs of unused/unpartitioned space. i wanted to add that 10 to my linux partition. i'm curious to know how i would go about diong that? do i add it to the home partition, swap, /, boot? i'm thinking most likely not swap or boot from some older threads i've read but maybe if someone could clarify what each partition is used for and how i would go about adding this extra space that'd be great.

the is no quick reply, but back up anything important before you start messing around with partions.

i've tried this before - there are many partition programs, but none that i know of that are free that will allow you to extend a current partition to incorporate free space, but i will be watching this space if someone else has a solution.

partiton magic 8! wonderful program. i have used it to resize partitions before, and friend of mine often does it with his windows/linux partitoins.

I agree - partition magic is a wonderful program, I used to use it. But don't you have to pay for partition magic (A)

I would keep the partition and move over those files you have to backup on a regular basis (e.g. /home or /etc or /usr/install/source ...) for easier handling.
