Can I use partition magic demo or do I have to buy it in order to use it?

As far as I know the demo only allows you to demo it but not make changes, I'm sure that will answer your question. So yes, you have to buy it to get a license, etc.

If you don't need to resize partitions on the go i recommend the free Ranish's Partition Manager + loader (http://www.Ranish.com)
