Packard Bell Pc

I have an old Packard Bell P75 which i installed Linux Mandrake 8.0 on to, i hav elinux alls et up but i cant get X-windows to work it desplays all funny liek when in windows and you set the res to high for the monitor or the gfx chip. I have tried configureing XF86 many times with no luck, the grahphics chip is a Cirrus Logic CL_GD5434 and the monitor is packard bell (i dont know model number) please could someone help with this problem?

it would help if a) you typed so anyone could understand (what does i hav elinux alls et up mean?)
b) you gave a title that was some use

Wow. That must be one of only a few surviving Packard Bells.

How much RAM does it have? I don't know about Mandrake 8, but 9.1 had KDE 2.x as the desktop. IIRC, the requirements were ~100-120MHz with 16MB RAM. It could be that your PC doesn't meet the requirements for the gui and falling back to something like FVWM or twm that might "look funny" at first.

Check which gui it's trying to use and then make sure your system meets the requirements for it.
