over sized desktop with specific resolution

i just installed slack 9.1 and have setup X... i ran XF86config, and selected resolutions: 1152*864 1280*1024 1024*768
my monitor is only capable of 1152*864 at 75hz otherwise it can do 1280*1024 but only at 60hz...and i hate the flicker.

x starts fine with 1152*864 at 75hz...but i end up with a desktop larger than my screen!!
but if i change the res to 1280*1024...everything is sweet! no oversized desktop...

anyone know how i can stop this over sized desktop thing?? i really dont like the flickering at 1280*1024..

cheers
Jurgen

im really not sure why this is happening...i have tried changing the view port setting in the xconfig file to for the view port size to 1152 864..still i get an oversized desktop area..
i also looked through the config file to see if there was anything about virtual desktop, but there was nothing.

my current horizontal setting in that config file for my monitor is: 31.5 - 75
and vertical is 50-90

just thought this info might help.

Just remove the largest (not so good) setting from
XF86Config... The default for X is to use the largest
possible res for the desktop.
