Oracle Enterprise Linux 5.x will not install on VM due to missing file
 

Hi,

I am trying to setup Oracle Enterprise Linux on VM Server. After downloading and burning the OS Cds for EL 5.5 32bit I set aside a hard drive, partitioned it and installed EL. Worked great. Then I downloaded VM Server 2.0.0 and installed it. When I got to the point of installing the OS on the VM, however, it complaints about a missing file on the second CD. Fine, I think, redownload and reburn. Same thing. Ok, maybe download a different EL version, so I got 5.4. The only thing that changed was the name of the file that cannot be read. It reads now:

"The file xsane-.991.ei5.i386.rpm cannot be opened. This is due to a missing file, a corrupt package or corrupt media. Please verify your installation source."

I researched various sites and came across this one: http://www.troubleshooters.com/linux/coasterless.htm

I followed the instructions,downloaded again and burned another CD using the command

cdrecord dev=0,0,0 speed=10 padsize=63s -pad -dao -v -eject myimage.iso

Worked great except that it still shows the same error message. I am running out of ideas at this point aside from working my way down on the Oracle Enterprise list.

Any ideas what else may do the trick?

MD5checksum or shal passes?

I am kind of surprised that it did install once and not on a different virtual machine but the complaint isn't about the machine rather the rpm.

Might try centos or scientific. Can't say oracle is better.

When I googled I found another reference where an user had no problem installing the OS on the actual machine but ran into the error message when trying to install the OS on the virtual machine.

I just hit the wall again this time trying to install Oracle Enterprise Linux 5.1. New set of CDs burned using the cdrecord command per the article referenced in my first post. No errors of any kind. Again on CD2 it comes back with the same message but different file: yelp-2.16.0-15.el5.i386.rpm.

I truly doubt that this is a CD issue. This is the forth different Linux package. Is there a way to place the iso files within the virtual machine software and have it somehow boot from that location?

Maybe disable or change the multimedia support in the VM.
