open telnet session from Mozilla browser


I want to open telnet session from Browser. In windows when I tried telnet://[IPaddrerss] is opening a telnet session. But when I tried this in linux using Mozilla browser it is showing error that the protocol is not supported

I find the idea a bit odd (not necessarily the telnet://
just the telnet in itself ;}), but ...

Is there any significant reason why couldn't you fire up terminal window and telnet from there?

telnet ://IP address in mozilla

It does not work in windows as well.Any plugins that should be installed to make it work in windows and linux
