Open Source lawful question

Say Linux was in trouble or something. Can people point at a certian group of coders? Say SCO wants to shut down Linux. Is it possible? I know Linux is programmed by everyday people with a good cause, but I'm not too sure about the whole system. I would think that Linux arose from thousands and nobody really owns it, so "Linux" can't be sued or anything.

Just curious. No worries about lawsuits, just interested in what's up.

I guess linux as a software can't be sued, but the companies that make the various flavors could be, and the servers that host it could be forced to stop. Of course then Linux will just go underground :-)
