open rar file


Hi

Do I have to install winrar on linux to extract files from an rar archive. or can I use redhat built in uncompress agent

You can use unrar, but you will probably need to install it. I don't think it comes installed in Red Hat by default.

I did install it but I get this error and I am using Redhat es3 update 7

[root@ark 123]# unrar access.rar
unrar: error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Well, it would seem that you need to install that particular file that is missing.

It is there under /lib/ssa/libstdc++.so.6 it is a link libstdc++.so.6 -> libstdc++.so.6.0.0

Did you try unrar as root?

Yah still the same error

lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 18 Jul 13 11:02 libstdc++.so.6 -> libstdc++.so.6.0.0

Well, I can't explain the error, but another utiliy that can open .rar files is p7zip

I downloaded this
p7zip-4.42-1.el3.rf.i386.rpm

and it says

[root@ark 123]# 7za e 123.rar

Error: 123.rar is not supported archive

or u can try online uncompression tools like wobzip at wobzip.filetap.com
