I don't know the answer but do know that CentOS is still up and running and providing updates. I notice that Lance Davis isn't listed in any of the lists of "developers" on the site. You'd think they'd at least credit him with starting the distro somewhere.
It may be that whatever agreement they made with him after the meeting where he turned over the domain to them precludes them from saying anything more than they did at the time.
One of the funniest things I read yesterday was some moron pontificating on why Scientific Linux and CentOS should merge ostensibly because there is no need for two RHEL derived distros. This same moron makes no mention of the multiple derivations of debian and its ubuntu offspring.
