Only Ubuntu or dual boot xp. HP Laptop.

Hi
I have installed Ubuntu 8.10 on my HP dv9545eo:
AMD Turion 64 x2 1.9 ghz
2 gb ram
Geforce 8400m GS
originally shipped with vista.

Is this fully compatible with Ubuntu? It works okay, but it is not faster than XP, which i thought it would be.
Is there way to run office and adobe photoshop acceptable on linux or will it be easier to set up a dual-boot?

I have 2 harddrives, so if I decided to make a dual-boot, will it then be better to install xp on one of them and Ubuntu on the other. Or will it be better to create 2 partitions on the first drive and then have data on the second drive?

Any help appreciated. Anders

I recommend 4 partitions on the first drive and 3 on the second drive.

First drive partitions:
    Windows
    swap
    Ubuntu
    data backup

Second drive partitions:
    data
    Ubuntu backup
    Windows backup

Is it really necessary with 7 partitions.
Wouldn't it be enough with the systems on the first drive and data(music, important things etc.) on the second drive. So if I mess up Ubuntu or XP, then the data will still be there.

   Data

Another question is, can i run big windows programs, like photoshop and office probably on ubuntu? if i can is there then any reason to have windows?

You could try installing W.I.N.E. (Wine is not an emulator)
It's built to run Windows programs, but it's not perfect
