Once Nic card is enabled...xwindows stops working?
I am having a very strange problem with RedHat7.2 on my computer.
If I have my network card enabled (eth0) it picks up the dhcp address for my cable modem but my computer will not boot into runlevel 5 (xwindows). It will boot into runlevel 3 and then I can execute startx and everything works fine (I compared services running at both runlevels (3 and 5) and everything is the same).
I have 2 nics and tried switching them to no avail.
I think it must be a security issue but I am unsure of what to look for. I checked all the var/log messages and was unable to find anything.
My default runlevel was set to 5 but would never boot up to xwindows if my nic card was enabled. So I switched to 3, I have the card enabled, type startx and everything works fine.
I would like to know why I can't boot up to runlevel 5 when the nic card is enabled?
One way to find out would be to change to run level 5, boot and look at /var/log/xfree86.0.log, any xfree error messages will be recorded there after a server crash, you can also set a more verbose level of logging for more info.
