You said:

Can you get to your window manager or does it just flicker and go back to a prompt that is only %50?

Well wheni start my laptop, the screen is 50% of the size..

if i load kernel 2.4.20 it goes back to nromal

if I go to my stable kernel 2.4.18-24 it goes back to 50% :/

If I startx all i get is fuzzy lines, and only way is to reboot

i think i know what you mean. i also have RH on my laptop (i am usiing windoze right now) and i have these lines in my /boot/grub/grub.conf file:

title Red Hat Linux (2.4.18-24.8.0)
root (hd0,2)
kernel /vmlinuz-2.4.18-24.8.0 ro root=LABEL=/ vga=773
initrd /initrd-2.4.18-24.8.0.img

the magic entry is 'vga=773'. this tells ur system to boot up in 1024x768 resolution - this will surely boot up your system utilizing ur whole screen.

hth.
