Angry oh dear. oh dear oh dear oh dear.

AAAAAAAAARRRGGGHH!!!!!!

ok, my /home is a LVM volume comprising two partitions on two seperate scsi disks. this volume contained a LOT of important and unbacked up data. (i know, i know 'if you dont make a backup...')

rm -R by flatmate who got a tad confused while logged in as root.

as i said, AAARRRRGGGHHH!!!!!

anyway, does anyone know of an undelete utility that supports LVM volumes spread accross two partitions on seperate drives? all the ones i have tried seem to want me to specify a single partition and return a bad inode error when i try them on one of the partitions that make up the LVM.

thanks all.

You can find a few "undelete" utilities over at freshmeat. It's been a while since I've used one so I can recall which one I used. I think it was either "recover" or "unrm" but I'm not sure. It's not a very fun process. I seem to recall having to run file against each recovered file to determine it's type. IMHO, not much fun....

thanks but recover was the first one i tried. doesnt seem to like the volume being spread accross 2 partitions.

luckilly all the files were of the same type and renaming them is something that can be done gradually, its just getting the raw data back before its overwrittten thats really critical.
