Question nVidia 4496 driver can handle init 3 when I append vga to kernel?

When I install this driver last month ( I think) everything when smooth until I append vga=791 to my kernel in /etc/grub.conf . When I do ctrl+alt+F1 my monitor when blank!!! I also kinda blank; don't know what's going on. I wanted to do the vga thing because I don't want to see big fonts when I go to init 3... any help
