ntfs file system
 
Is this still dangerous to write to ntfs file system? I am using kernel 2.6.

with nothing : impossible ..

with Captive-NTFS , it's easy and safe.

Actually in the 2.6 kernel documentation it says that you can write to a ntfs partition safely as long as you don't change the length of the file you're modifying. A bit limiting but its a start.
