No audio when played from CD

Gurus,

I installed Redhat 9. When I play audio CD in my CD-RW is being recognized and the default audio player is launched and being played. But I cannot hear the sound. My sound card is working as I can do the test sound the hear the music.

Is there anything I should change ?

Thanks
KS

Check the inside of your computer. In Linux the audio cable needs to be connected from your CD/DVD-ROM drive to your soundcard. If you've got two drives make sure you're trying to play the CD in the one that is connected to your soundcard. It took me almost a week to figure this one out but now everything works fine. :)

Thanks. It is Dell 2400 and for sure they are not providing the analog cable which runs between the CD drive to the sound card. Sigh..

One more quick question. I tried installing Realplayer8 from real.com using the .bin version. I installed it under /usr/local/Realplayer8. First thing is, it is not in the PATH. Secondly, if I execute "realplay", it just doesn't do anything.

Should I try the rpm ?

PS : I like these smilies !! :D

yes, i would recomend the rpm, sometimes its just easier that way, secondly, for that cable i got one at a computer store for 99 cents. they're dirt cheap just go ahead and pick one up next time you are at the computer shop (the sad thing is they all know me at both of my local computer stores LOL
