Newbie Mandrake 9.1 questions....
 

I'm running XP/Mandrake duel boot on 2 partitions on the same drive. I've only had this installed about a day. OK, I'm a total newbie, so here goes. I'm having problems with mandrake 9.1 and here they are:
1. Mandrake does not recognize my MS USB 5 button mouse. Have to put on ps/2 adapter.
2. Clock does not keep the right time. If i turn off the computer, it seems like the clock stops too.
3. No screen saver? But when I walked away from the computer for about a half hour, I come back and the screen was black. I move the mouse and nothing. Had to reboot cause I could not get a screen. I'm sure it has a screensaver but don't have a clue how to get it to work or activate it......
4. After install, using KDE, I see my cdroms (3)
icons on the desktop, but have no clue which one is which cause they all say the same thing and cannot find a way to rename them to tell the difference. (If I try it tells me I can't do that.)
5. What file system should I partition the Linux partition to (NTFS/FAT32/OTHER)?
I think thats about it..........

1. Go to the K menu/configuration/Mandrake Control Center. Enter your root password, and choose the hardware option. There you will be able to set up your mouse. I am using USB (Logitec MX550) w/ Mandrake 9.1.

3. Go to K menu/Configuration/Control Center (not MDK ctrl cntr) and choose Look & Feel. There is the option for the screensaver.

4. Also don't know, I got rid of all those icons.

5. Linux runs best on its native filesystems. Journalized, and ReiserFS are the most popular. Search around the forum for more info so you can choose which one suits your needs. Linux can only read NTFS at this time (writing is experimental and will most likely destroy your data), but will read/write to FAT32 if you would like to share a data parition with Windows.
