1) download the linux jdk from sun and make sure you have gcc (for c/c++) installed

2)look into MPlayer

3)look into Samba

Thanks aaa
I will try to download and install the one from Sun website
But for the gcc, I have it installed but I don't seems to know how to use it correctly. i've tried running some C programs with it but it keeps giving me some kind of error.
I will so happy if you can just give me a simply step by step instruction on running a simple C program.

For the Mplayer, I dont know what you mean by that and for samba, I know its installed to to access it is the problem

thanks very much

Hello beepee

take a look at http://linux-newbie.sunsite.dk/lnag_learning.html#gcc
it details you on how to compile basic C/C++ programs.

I would also suggest you browse through the site.. I think it is a really nice linux newbie website

http://linux-newbie.sunsite.dk/index.html

hope that helps
