New kernel image not found
If you read this Moses, I've taken a couple of days off to read non computer books and relax, thanks for previous help.
I've managed at last to create a new kernel from the stock 2.4.18-6mdk so as to have scsi emu in the kernel and not as a module. I have copied the new kernel to bzImage.myker.10oct2002, updated lilo.conf and run lilo. The new kernel is not found when I tap out 10oct02 at boot, any ideas anyone? /etc/lilo.conf image=/boot/bzImage.myker.10oct2002 label=10oct02 root=/dev/hde1 initrd=/boot/initrd.img append="quiet devfs=mount hdd=ide-scsi" read-only ls /boot boot.2101 initrd.img@ mbr.b boot.b@ kernel.h@ message@ bzImage.myker.10oct2002 kernel.h-2.4.18-6mdk os2_d.b chain.b lilo@ System.map@ config@ lilo-bmp/ System.map-2.4.18-6mdk config-2.4.18-6mdk lilo-graphic/ vmlinuz@ fr_CH-latin1.klt lilo-menu/ vmlinuz-2.4.18-6mdk grub/ lilo-text/ |
ps: I always boot from a floppy, when I tap TAB key at "boot:" I should get a list of kernel labels yes? Well I do not, why? Do I need to redo a boot disk?
|
If you're booting from a floppy lilo needs to be configured on that floppy, not your machine. I just want to confirm that this is what you're doing.
You shouldn't need to 'redo' your bootdisk as long as you re-ran lilo on it. |
Yes you're right. I had'nt run lilo on the floppy and I realised it only once I was tucked away for the night. I am trying out the correct syntaxt today.

I'm a bit stuck now. Is it possible to rig up a lilo.conf menu on the floppy or do I just transfer a copy of this file onto the floppy? What I'm after is a way to boot my new kernel...
