New Errors After Kernel Update
Hi,
I just used a RPM update from redhat, to move from 2.4.7-10 to 2.4.9-21, it all went through without a hitch, except when I boot I get the messages "Can't find module block-major-2." I have searched the forum, and the net and I have tried the standard remedies: depmod -ae I really don't know what else to try, any ideas? If I do a modprobe -c | grep major-2 floppy, it shows up, but I'm not sure what to do with that info. All help is appreciated. I have kernel-headers updated, and modutils also. Mike. |
anybody?

well, have you correctly enabled floppy support in the kernel?
|
This is not a kernel rebuild, it is a kernel update, meaning that the kernel that is used has defaults of RedHat set, which include floppy support etc... I will double check, but since it is a default kernel setup (like that of a default install kernel, it should have floppy support).

yeah i see, assuming you have the file, i'd try specifically loading /boot/config-2.4.7-10 or such.

K, I think there is some confusion here. A RedHat Kernel RPM update loads, and configures the kernel for you, there is no config file editing involved, you don't even run make xconfig etc... The only thing done is a rpm -ivh kernelupdate.rpm, and then it configures your grub for you, and your modules etc... I just found that within a 10 day period they released a new update, so I am hoping that it was a bug fix, but I haven't found any change log on it yet since it was just released today. Let me know if you have any other ideas.
Thanks Alot! Mike. |
Unfortunatly, the box I am working with is hosted, and not in front of me so I can't see how it is actually built, but do you think a missing floppy drive might cause this error?
TIA Mike. |
