Plugged it in and off it went! Netgear provide drivers for this card (at 50GBP each, they're not cheap either!) but it works perfectly. Strongly recommended. Configuration is as follows:
Keep plugged in on installation / upgrade. Then:
ifup eth0
ifconfig -a
Yep. That's it.
I tell the others in the house (sharing a Netgear RP114 router) that it's much quicker using Linux cause TCP/IP is based on Unix sockets - doesn't necessarily make it quicker but that's a white lie
I downloaded Redhat 7.3 and have absolutely no complaints about it - it even whinges about the checksum of my DOS files with Japanese filenames - and rightly so.
OpenOffice too. It makes a valiant effort to render Japanese fonts so I can't complain.
Today, I feel like I've arrived.
