Netgear FA411 PCMCIA 100Mbps Ethernet card - works out of the box!

Plugged it in and off it went! Netgear provide drivers for this card (at 50GBP each, they're not cheap either!) but it works perfectly. Strongly recommended. Configuration is as follows:

Keep plugged in on installation / upgrade. Then:

ifup eth0
ifconfig -a

Yep. That's it.

I tell the others in the house (sharing a Netgear RP114 router) that it's much quicker using Linux cause TCP/IP is based on Unix sockets - doesn't necessarily make it quicker but that's a white lie

I downloaded Redhat 7.3 and have absolutely no complaints about it - it even whinges about the checksum of my DOS files with Japanese filenames - and rightly so.

OpenOffice too. It makes a valiant effort to render Japanese fonts so I can't complain.

Today, I feel like I've arrived.

Welcome to your desired destination, Bert! You can loosen your seatbelt.
This is great news, espacially for guys who are bound to NetGear gear.
Heads up.

Sounds good Bert, I have same setup with the ethernet card and router. I am installing red hat 7.3 onto my laptop Compaq armada 7800, and I have Win98 on my PC. Where did you get the drivers for your fa411?
