net send equivalent in linux


Is there an equivalent for net send in linux ? not like normal write or talk but where a popup message appears when we send the message to another remote pc

you can use smbclient to send a popup to a windows machine. if you have access to an X server you could use xmessage to pop up a message on it.

I am familiar with the usage of smbclient . I wanted a pop up message to a linux machine

if you have access to an X server you could use xmessage to pop up a message on it.

but you need to have access to the apprpriate display, there is as far as i know no other way of doing it without running an apprpriate server at which point you might as well run an im client of sort.

what to do

i've typed the xmessage and 1 popup appear. there's blank box for type in the message and 1 button label "Okay".
how do i specify to whom the msg goes.

How to use smbclient to send just a simple ppoup window ?

smbclient -M netbiosname
after connection is established, type text, end with ^D

the same

the same on my PC :

[root@vmail common]# smbclient -M 192.168.0.130
added interface ip=192.168.0.200 bcast=192.168.0.255 nmask=255.255.255.0
session request failed

what is the problem ?

is netbiosname and ipaddress are eual.if not how to get netbiosname.
