1st off,my PCs too slow and has dial up,so IM NOT downloading a new version. now that thats down,I need help installing the evaluation version of SuSE linux (Im keeping windows too,Im going to use Lilo)that came with quake 3(or was it 2?) arena.the only other version of linux I have run is mulinux, which didnt have an installer like SuSE. okay,my problem is that when YaST2 runs, the Graphics are too large, and the whole picture doesnt fit on my monitor. can someone tell me how to get the WHOLE picture on the monitor so I can see what the heck im doing? thanks.
I dont think you can install the Evaluation version on the harddrive.
It sounds like you have "virtual desktop" enabled. In your /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 file, look for the "VirtualDesktop" "yes" option (or something similar) and remove it.
And i gotta tell you anyway. Why use an old version when a new (better) version is free or little cost.
Its like saying: "Im gonna use Windows98 even though XP is right next to me".
cheapbytes.com
almostfreelinux.com
and lots of other places sell distros for about $5. I think its worth it.
first off, this evaluation is unlimiyted and is a full OS,it just doesnt include all the programs... 2nd,I said that I was still running YaST2,and I havent even installed SuSE linux yet,let alone used virtual desktop. Im at the point where I boot the install CD.
the problem was that the graphics in Yast2 were messed up! everything is displayed to big,so some of the content does not show on the page (i.e. I cant see anything past the language in the page with languages, and I cant see anything on the page where you decide a username except the a the word You. please help me! and also,I have very little money, and cant get a job because im 13... but I DO know some about linux,C/C++ and the like...
and you cant scrap up $5? Well, then I guess you have to spend the time to download a new distro, as it will have a much better install and hardware detection.
Listen, I have dialup too, so you're not going to get sympathy from me.
its only $5.00 ,yeah I could, but I thought you meant $50.00,and had a typo! but anyway, I have a hewlet packardpafvilion 6736 running windows ME, intel GFX technology(not sure the name of the GFX card and sound card,63 mb RAM and an intel celeron processor... not sure what else this PCs got.
linux is free, its the cd your paying for I guess... which if thats the case they royally overcharge you for and dont get too off topc or the thread will be closed,a few is okay (I think,im new here,so I don know)
The "free" part is that you get (and can modify) the source with the binary.
But Redhat does offer free downloads.
Go to redhat.com or linuxiso.org
With most distros, you pay for the support.
And people can sell it too, they just cant call it "redhat" (you can still trademark your distros name), so stores usually call it a "redhat workalike" or "pink tie" or "Xxx Xxx".
But Redhat or Mandrake might be a good choice for you.
