Need a Great Distro
 

I need a distro that has:

• Automatic Gaming Support
• EYE-Candy
• Ease-of-use e.g. A kid can use it without screwing the distro
• Automatic Codec Support (mp3s,wmas,dvds)
• A eye-candy filled manager - yup, I love the eye-candy :D
• Excellent package support - e.g One file, no dependencies all-in-one packages :D

Will think of more things later.....

Since you already seem to be familiar with Ubuntu, stick with it and use Automatics for the easy automated multimedia support:

PCLinuxOS has a gaming edition. It is the most newbie-friendly distro I have ever seen. All the codecs pre-installed/configured. Handles NTFS, no problem. Even more newbie-friendly than Mepis, which is hard to beat.

That Linux distro doesn't exist. You'll have to use Windoze eXperiment.

I forgot to remind you ... a little kiddie playing games can use Windoze,
but a kiddie would not be able to install and configure Windoze.

Like Chinaman said that distro doesn't exist. If you want to use Linux, pick the distro you are the most familiar with.

Doesn't exist out of the box maybe, but if you don't mind taking the time to configure a distro (you actually have no real choice btw) then you can get what you want.

*Automatic gaming support - What sort of gaming? tux racer? frozen bubbles? latest FPS? you can install cedega on any system for the later, of course you need drivers for your graphics card that support 3d accel. etc. I haven't seen all of that covered out of the box in a distro, but it doesn't take long to set up.

*Eye candy - Well that's the job of the DE and WM's, which aren't distro specific, and will require personalisation after install.

*Ease of use - a kid? what age? what will they be doing? users will be dependent on the software they require, and it's design, not the distros problem. if they are admining then some distros have GUI tools for admining (although i find they add an un-needed level of complexity) .

*Automatic codec support - You mean installed out of the box? i am sure a few have it, but any distro can easily obtain required codecs.

*Eye candy filled manager - File manager? other sort of manager? this is down to the DE/WM again, independent of distro.

*Excellent package support - What you want (1 package containing everything) goes against the way linux software is created, they use libraries and depend on other software so as not to have lots of redundancy, they can use the same libs etc. The closest you will get is a package manager that will automatically install all of the dependencies.

All in all what you want is probably going to be less hassle for you to use windows XP or something, you can use things such as window blinds for your eye candy.

True, but I want to use Linux, not Windows.

I think your best option would be Ubuntu, or Kubuntu. Many people say Kubuntu is more user-friendly and has better eye-candy, along with the support and stability of Ubuntu.

I would second PCLinuxOS : Supergamer DVD, easy to use (based on the best distro - in my opinion) and has good support in the PCLinuxOS forum (moderated by Darin - supergamer is his baby)

Okay, I really appreciate all of your input into this, I was having a low-time using Linux, but I have tried PCLinuxOS and it has blew me away with its user-friendly-ness. :D Thanks for everything
