Nautilus file manager List file background problem

I use Nautilus file manager in 'List' view. On opening some folders the listed items have white background, while in other folders the backgroud is grey. The entire list of any folder has same background, it is not that some items have white and others have grey background. Is it usual or is there some problem in my system? Why this difference is there? Does it depend on some property of the folder? Thanks for your help.

I have not observed this, but I'm not using the default background settings.

When you go to Edit-->Backgrounds and Emblems in Nautilus, what do you find?

I just found out that the background is grey if sorting is done by filename and some folders are opening sorted on file name and others with modification date.

By the way, I do not see "Backgrounds and Emblems" option in Edit menu item in Nautilus. I am using Arch with LXDE.

Thanks for the comeback. So there is a purpose to the colors. Makes sense.

You might well have a newer version of Nautilus than I do. I'm using 2.30.1 on Debian Squeeze.

That seems to be making the difference. I installed recently and it is version 3.4.2
