mysql hanged: got an error message which I need help with

Hi guys, (gosh seems that i am having quite a bit of problems recently )

my mysql server just hang (the service, machine itself is still responding)

so we did a reset. and on checking of the mysqld.log, i saw the following repeated:

Quote:
060212 10:04:08 [ERROR] /usr/sbin/mysqld: Sort aborted
060212 10:05:21 [ERROR] /usr/sbin/mysqld: Disk is full writing '/tmp/STmGlP0P' (Errcode: 28). Waiting for someone to free space... Retry in 60 secs

The above error was from today 0400hrs onwards...

till abt 1500hrs, the following appeared:

Quote:
060212 15:04:06 [Note] /usr/sbin/mysqld: Normal shutdown

060212 15:04:07 [ERROR] /usr/sbin/mysqld: Forcing close of thread 20469029 user: 'root'

060212 15:04:22 [Warning] Warning: Optimize table got errno 28, retrying
060212 15:04:24 [Note] /usr/sbin/mysqld: Shutdown complete

060212 15:04:24 mysqld ended

060212 15:07:30 mysqld started
/usr/sbin/mysqld: ready for connections.
Version: '4.1.12-standard' socket: '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' port: 3306 MySQL Community Edition - Standard (GPL)
Apparently the mysql restarted... (we only restart the machine physically aroun 1630) But what I'm concern is the error message in between..

then lastly.. after the above entry, the following was seen in the log until we reset the machine:

Quote:
Last known record in log
060212 16:28:13 [ERROR] /usr/sbin/mysqld: Can't open file: 'postindex.MYI' (errno: 144)
I ran 'df' and got the following:

Quote:
[root@serverlog]# df
Filesystem 1K-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on
/dev/sda10 11685552 1512448 9579504 14% /
/dev/sda2 101105 12811 83073 14% /boot
none 2020920 0 2020920 0% /dev/shm
/dev/sda5 20398052 2902352 16459512 15% /home
/dev/sda9 1035660 34128 948924 4% /tmp
/dev/sda3 30961696 3872612 25516324 14% /var
I have plenty of space... i wonder why is there an error to say no space? Also it seems that it is writing to /tmp... weird?

Lastly.. thing to note: This server mysql is running vbulletin database, that explains why you see "postindex" and 'thread' etc...

a bit lost... wonder if you guys got any clue abt it?
