Hi,

Doesn't kwatchgnupg need gnupg2 instead of gnupg-1.4?

Thanks druuna

The question is whether gnupg2 will corrupt my existing 'gpg'.

I would like to have your opinion on this before downloading and installing gnupg2.

My gpg works fine. I don't want to corrupt or disable it.

----------------------------------------------------------------

I found the following:

RedHat Other apt.kde-redhat.org/kde-redhat/redhat/3/RPMS.stable/gnupg2-1.9.21-3.el3.i386.rpm
RedHat Other apt.kde-redhat.org/kde-redhat/redhat/4/x86_64/RPMS.stable/gnupg2-1.9.20-1.el4.x86_64.rpm
1

They are for Redhat. Mine is Mandriva. Which is the correct one for me?

This might corrupt my existing gpg. I am a bit afraid.

Hi,

Don't 'just' download any version!

Feed google with mandriva and gnupg2, you get a ton of hits (also for 64 bit install).

About corrupting your present version: It will be completely updated.
Will it works after updating? If all went well: Yes. But........ It doesn't always go as planned.

You can always remove the last installed version and re-install the previous one.

I searched as the way you suggested. If you look at the following site, you will find a lot. But nothing for 64 bit. Shall I dowonload one of those '' .i586.rpm '' and install?

http://rpm.pbone.net/index.php3/stat....i586.rpm.html

I would accept what you suggest.

From the above site, I found the following bunch. None fits for my Linux.

It was a great clue.

I went to the following site.

http://rpmfind.net/linux/rpm2html/se...submit=Search+...

Downloaded the following file.

gnupg2-1.9.16-4mdk.x86_64.rpm

I will not install it now. It is too late. I must sleep because I must leave home early to go to work tomorrow morning.

It didn't work. Please read the following:

[root@c83-250-110-112 Desktop]# rpm -ivh gnupg2-1.9.16-4mdk.x86_64.rpm
error: Failed dependencies:

[root@c83-250-110-112 Desktop]#

What shall I do now?

Hi,

Install the needed dependencies.

But before you start hunting for packages: Doesn't Mandriva have an install tool (apt-get/yum/or alike) that can do this for you? All the decent versions of these tools also take care of dependencies for you.

Hope this helps.

I downloaded the following.

dirmngr-0.9.5.tar.bz2

----------------------------

[root@c83-250-110-112 Desktop]# tar -jxf dirmngr-0.9.5.tar.bz2
[root@c83-250-110-112 Desktop]#

It created the following folder:
dirmngr-0.9.5/

--------------------------------------

[root@c83-250-110-112 Desktop]# cd dirmngr-0.9.5/
[root@c83-250-110-112 dirmngr-0.9.5]#

[ There are big problems. So many dependencis. This is a tall order for me. Now I must go to the gym for training. I would attend this when I come back home. You suggested the install tool. I don't think it has all these stuff. However, I will look at it. ]

By the way this ' libksba.so.8()(64bit) ' is impossible to download. It doesn't exist. I get a strange a message when I tried to download. This is a tall order for me.

I just came home from the gym.
The following file is in the built in Mandrake Control Center.

gnupg2-1.9.16-4mdk.x86_64.rpm

There are some problems for the time being. It may be the sever is down at the moment.
I will try later.

I beileve the built in Mandrake Control Center goes to a some kind of an Internet repository or server.

I have used this Mandrake Control Center. It works. Some temporary problems, I believe.

Now it worked.

[root@c83-250-110-112 Desktop]# rpm -ivh gnupg2-1.9.16-4mdk.x86_64.rpm
Preparing... ########################################### [100%]
1:gnupg2 ########################################### [100%]
[root@c83-250-110-112 Desktop]#

Do I have to run regular configuration commands?

The following are the commands.

./configure
make
make install
--------------------------------------

Usually it creates a folder. Why didn't it create a folder?

Hi,

There are several ways programs can be installed.

- Using package management (ie: rpm, dpkg, apt-get, swaret, etc).
- From source.

I could explain all the above, but here are a few links that hopefully explain it better then I ever could

Installing Software
Package management system
Linux Package Management
Package Management with RPM

To also give a short answer to your question: You don't need to do the configure-make-make install steps if you installed a program with rpm.

Hope this clears things up a bit.
