My mouse wouldn't scroll???

for some reason the wheel of my mouse doesn't work under Linux, well at least under KDE or GNOME???

I had a look at the control center but it just says Mouse Wheel scrolls by 3 lines...

What could I try to sort this out.

Thanks.

What does your XF86Config say about your input device?

these lines "enable" my mouse scroll

Section "InputDevice"

Identifier "Mouse1"
Driver "mouse"
Option "Protocol" "IMPS/2"
Option "Device" "/dev/mouse"
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
