my IDE-to-SATA adapter doesn't work

I bought an IDE-to-SATA adapter, a little circuit board that has a female IDE connector on one side and a SATA connector on the other. It never worked. Any suggestions? Perhaps I have to change certain BIOS settings?

Does it need a separate power supply? For any such device to work, everything needs to be done by the adapter; there shouldn't be any BIOS things or software drivers. Who is the manufacturer of the device? Maybe you should trade it in for one that works.

There's no separate power supply. The eBay seller I bought it from didn't list a manufacturer. You're suggesting it's just a piece of junk? I was afraid of that.
