any ideas why it's doin this?
I do not know if this would be related, but years ago I was running into problems getting Oracle 8 installed on a Solaris box. The script would kick off, but I would never get the GUI install windows for Oracle and the console would appear to hang-up.
In my case the problem was I did not have X set up properly and it was unable to successfully launch the GUI. I commonly logged in as one user then I would open up an Xterm window and 'su' to another user, this is where I would launch the installation from, but it turns out that this user was not-properly aware of X. Later I discovered that I was unable to launch even simply GUI tools (such as Xeyes) in this manner.
After changing my set and exported my DISPLAY variable and I was able to run Xeyes and I was then able to perform my installation of Oracle.
I hope that this helps.
