My Christmas Project

Im going to my 'rents house Thurs. for Christmas stuff and my mom told me last night that they just got DSL. I brought them one comp. last time i went down (AMD 2200+ 256RAM). And i'm bringin' another w/ me this time. Also, they have an old Sony Vaio w/ a 233Mhz Processer and 32Mb Ram. Im gonna try to network everything togeter. I was just wondering 1) What distro could i run on the old Sony 2) Will SendMail work intranetwork 3) Are there any type of Internet filters for Linux ( my cousin will be using on comp. and we'd like to be able to filter porn and stuff) Thanks for the help.

I'd use slackware on that box (I use slackware on an old Sony VAIO w/ 200Mhz. processor and 64MB of ram as my parents firewall)

Don't bother installing any of the X packages, they aren't really necessary. You can use any MTA package as none of them are all that processor/ram intensive unless you are handling a boat load of e-mail. I personally use qmail but use whatever your comfortable with. As far as net filtering, I setup an iptables firewall and a transparent SQUID proxy. This provides the ability to block certain ports if you wish, and provides caching and logging of websites visited.
