Multiple access to soundcard

Hello,
Is it possible to grant simultaneous access to the soundcard?
I mean... When XMMS il playing I don't ear any other sound because the soundcard is "busy" (I think).
I think it is "locked"... Is it possible to change this?

(I'm running Sarge). Thanks

CIao
