MPLAYER SOUND not WORKING on SUSE LINUX 8.1???
I've install SUSE LINUX 8.1 on my laptop....and I've got MPLAYER as default already install which is great...
I Can watch DVD ..everything is perfect....Except.. . .the "MOVIE doesn't have SOUND" <<<<< it says "Couldn't initialize audio codec!! >> No sound" Can anyone expert help me out pleaseee....(BTW any information of what command I can typed in shell..like maybe ....$mplayer ??) |
Are the proper codecs installed? Check in /usr/lib/win32 or /usr/local/lib/win32.If they aren't download them from Mplayer's site and extract them into /usr/lib/win32.Typing mplayer by itself in a terminal or man mplayer should give you some options to use.

I typed as root # /usr/lib/win32 and then this is what I've got:
bash:/usr/lib/win32:is directory Am I typed the right command??...sorry I've been learning linux... And what else I have to do ? |
To get to a directory the command is 'cd'
so cd /usr/lib/win32 Good luck #Garry |
recompile!
suse has a badly-compiled default mplayer in their distro. best recompile it from scratch, get all the codex and libraries you need before and compile them, put them into the right places.
when i tested, they had disabled ac3 sound and some other things were just not done right. suse's mplayer is just a default, not the best one can get. |
