Mplayer=useless? I need a DVD player and other video playback support
I cannot get mplayer working. It's always one library problem after the other. I installed about 15 different packages already and it still doesn't work.
Is there any good DVD player and .wmv player out there for linux? I use xine/gxine for most things but it fails with DVD playback and doesnt support .asp or .wmv files. |
Xine supports most MS media types. All you need is the codecs (look for a package called all or all-codecs) from mpalyers website and copy them into /usr/lib/win32. Xine also plays dvds fine but if they are encrypted you will need to install libdvdcss.

alot of the .wmv's are drm'ed these days as well. they have to phone bill g for permission to play.

As reddazz said, you need libdvdcss.
