mp3 / mpegs no sound

hallo

I have gentoo installed and sound works fine. I can play my mp3s / WAVs through XMMS but for some reason, when I open an mp3 or an standard mpeg file in the normal default software [such as noatun or Kaboodle] I get no sound whatsoever. If mpeg, it plays the video with no audio and if it's an mp3, the progress bar moves across as though it's playing, but I hear no sound at all.

Anyone have any ideas at all?

make sure your configuration for noatun and kaboodle is using the same sound module as xmms. The default is OSS for xmms, im not sure of the other two.

If you changed yours in xmms a while ago, and forgot...then just change it in the other two.

I didn't change anything in xmms. It worked from the second I emerged it. How do I change the configuration for noatun, Kaboodle? There's no options/preferences within the prg that would allow for that.
