mp3's wont play on CentOS

Hi,

I have kdemultimedia-3.3.1-2

I have tried all the mp3 players I have and none wil play any mp3s I download. I read that I might need
kdemultimedia-extras. I found kdemultimedia-extras-3.3.1-0.lvn.3.3.src.rpm, but I don't do source. I do have sound otherwise so guess it is not a sound card issue? Thanks for any help.

Centos is a clone of Red Hat, which disables mp3 capablities due to licenses and copyright type legal stuff.

Download mpg123 and that should get mp3 playing working for you.

I sure can't find any non-source el4 rpm for ix86 that will load and yum is a bust on it. I'll try xmms & xmms-mp3 since it was highest in the members choice awards - there is an el4 for them and even my yum can find xmms (although it cant find xmms-mp3)

Install the first RPM listed and it should work, it was made for RH 9 but nothing has really changed for xmms over the years. If it complains about any dependencies, just google for them and then install them.. http://havardk.xmms.org/dist/xmms-1.2.7-rh8-rh9-rpm/

You could add dags repo to your yum sources and use yum to install XMMS, xine etc.
