Moving profile data between user accounts

I am quite new to Linux (but not computing). I've managed to build a SuSE Linux 10.0 system that has got going, stayed up, and started to pay its way. Great!

However I have done everything to date as root user. I SHOULD be working as 'me' and only using Root for installs etc. Right?

So, how do I transfere all of the profile data from Thunderbird, Firefox, etc, so that I don't have to 'start again' ?
(bookmarks, accounts, address books, etc; but cookies not important)

If it was a Windows box I'd get into DocsAndStgs and copy over sub-directories. Any reason why I shouldn't uncloak the hidden dirs and do similarly under Linux?

Please advise,

when you log in with root, try it
Quote:
mv /root/.mozilla /home/<normal account>/
and then log in with normal account (not root) and run Firefox

NOTE:
you can try this trick with a lot of softwares, not only mozilla based one.
However, I suggest you running these software (as your normal account) before moving the profile data to your normal account.
I have experience some problems when ommited this step.
Good luck
