Mouse cursor in X is offset

hi all
i'm running XFree 4.2.0-8 (Redhat 7.3) and qvwm. After some
time (random), the mouse cursor is offset horizontally by a
couple of pixels. Whilst i am now used to it , the
machine is a public access terminal and is frustrating for
other users. There is Win98 on the same system and it
doesn't do this, so it must be Linux/X/qvwm. I need help
understanding the problem and fixing it ! adieus
