mounting takes ages!

Hi everybody!

I don't know what I did, but my Linux-box shortly started to take ages to mount /dev/hda1 as /boot during startup.

I had a poweroutage, but e2fsck ran fine and I can access all files on /boot normally.

Any ideas on what I could do to speed up the mounting?

Hi, I have a similar problem since I installed Kubuntu, but with a remote fs.
the mount options are rw,hard, intr - but it works fine

Does the drive seem to run at normal speeds at other times? Any weird output in dmesg? My first guess would be faulty hardware if it's taking a long time to spin up. Try using hdparm to put the disk in standby mode or to sleep, wait for it to spin down and then try to access something on it and see if it takes ages to spin up again. Might give you some useful debugging info :)

well, in my case, the hardware is always active
