Mounting Read/Write Fat32 partition

Hello,

I have a dual boot WindowsXP and Red Hat Enterprise Linux laptop. I have a data drive that I've mounted on both Windows and Linux. On the Windows side, I can read and write to the data partition without any problems. I can mount it on the linux side and read/write as root, but can only read as a normal user. When I try to write a file as a user, I get the following error: "cannot touch 'test': Permission denied." I made sure that my user has been entered into the group users and my entry in /etc/fstab looks like: /dev/sda6 /data vfat rw,user, auto 0 0

Any thoughts as to why I can read and write as a normal user?

FAT32 Permissions are controlled by the umask mount option.
