mounting problem

Hi everyone, im having a little problem mounting my dvd rom drive. I issue out the command, mount /media/dvd and I tried mounting just the folder and none of the the commands work. I get the error message "Mount:You must specify the filesystem type"
Anyone have any ideas, I have never seen this message before. Everything in /etc/fstab is set correctly and I was just using this function and out of no where it stopped working.
BTW The OS is SUSE 8.1

Thank you
