Mounting ext3

I just compiled a kernel on my RH7.2 system and included the ext3 and jbd modules. With my old kernel (the one that came with the installation), everything worked fine - the filesystem was mounted as ext3. But now, when I boot, it says it was mounted as ext2, and I'm forced to sit there while fsck runs (if my machine crashes). Oddly enough, when it mounts the other filesystems, it just says that it recovers the journal. And when I type in 'mount' at the console, it tells me that my root partition is ext3. Anybody know whats going on?

what do you have in /etc/fstab?

if the journal is screwed, rebuild it with "tune2fs"

Here's the line for the root partition in my /etc/fstab:

LABEL=/ / ext3 defaults 1 1

Its not that the journal's screwed (I think), it just mounts it as ext2 instead of ext3 to begin with, but for some reason AFTER it finishes booting it becomes ext3..
