Mounting another hard disk

I have just installed a second hard disk in my PC. I wish to keep it for windoze so that it can access the files as well as my linux disk. Whenever I try and mount the new disk, under linux, it keeps telling me its the wrong file system type. I'm using the command:

mount -t vfat /dev/hdb /mnt

Any reason why it shouldn't work?

because hdb is an entire drive, not a partition, try hdb1 etc... also /mnt is not a valid mountpoint, or rather, not recommended. you want /nmt/windows or such like (just make an empty directory

If you want to "see" partition that are on /dev/hdb and their file system type:
fdisk /dev/hdb
then press 'p' to see print the content of the disk.

I've tried fsck /dev/hdb but it reports a badblock error. I'm afraid to correct the badblock for fear of ruining the already extant data on the disk. Will it do this?
