Mounted disk turns read-only automatically

Hello, I'm running Mandriva 2006 and I have this weird problem where a mounted usb disk (reiserfs) will work fine at first and then all of a sudden I cant write or delete anything on it.

It usually happens right in the middle of copying a large directory, though this may not matter.

I get a pop-up telling me "Couldn't write to ..." and when trying from the command line I am told it's a read-only filesystem, which makes no sense since I was writing to it just a minute ago.

Anyone knows what I'm doing wrong?

USB devices are handled by udev, so maybe here is a problem. Have a look at /etc/udev/udev.config for irregularities. See also
